They have enabled me to follow my dreams

dreamI have been able to live, well and comfortably, for almost two years now without an employer. Instead of working demanding hours in mediocre conditions for awful people, I’ve made my way using every skill I have to trade with others what is necessary to provide a home to my family. Instead of mundane, repetitive clicking of a mouse, or the foul stench of petroleum contamination on my clothing, I have been able to make a real living, and be a great father as well. Because of this, I owe a very great debt of gratitude to Jim and Cathy Forth. They have both had me assist them in improving their lives and homes and as such have bridged the gap for me between music lessons. They have enabled me to follow my dreams.

Jim is no longer with us unfortunately. He was a brilliant link to the past, and a warm loving man from the old school. He insisted on me fixing a table that I told him really should not have been fixed, and I insisted on building him a staircase in lieu of his ridiculous step-class contraption he used to get into his house (that nearly killed many). While mixing concrete, he’d tell me war stories and tales of my son’s legendary Great-grandfather. He took credit for the lineage of art and music instructors in my wife’s family, who’s torch I carry. He taught me about making my money work for me and not the other way around. Working for him was never a day of work at all. He stormed the beaches at Normandy. He carried the Purple Heart. His eyes and mind were alive and lively when talking about Benjamin. Give ’em Hell Jim. He’d laugh when I said that.

if you do, you would have ministered to someone today and God will bless

Several years ago, a preacher from a distant town accepted a call from a church in Leeds. Some weeks after his arrival, he had an appointment that made him to board a bus to another part of the town. When he sat down, he discovered that the driver had mistakenly given him his balance in excess of 50 pence. As he considered what to do, he thought within him, ‘You’d better give this money back. It would be wrong to keep it’. Then another thought came, “Oh, forget it, it’s only 50p; who would worry about this little amount, afterall the bus company makes so much money on fares; they will never miss it. Accept it as ‘a gift from God’ and keep quiet. “When he was getting down from the bus, he paused momentarily at the door, and then handed the 50p to the driver and said, ‘Take; the balance you gave me was in excess’. The driver, with a smile, replied, ‘Aren’t you the new preacher in town?’ ‘Yes I am’, he replied. ‘Well, I have been thinking a lot lately about where to go to worship. I just wanted to see what you would do if I gave you a balance in excess. I’ll worship with you at the church this Sunday. When the preacher stepped off the bus, he grabbed a nearby electric pole, looked up and said, ‘Oh God, I almost sold your Son for 50 pence!’. Our lifestyles are the only Bible some people will ever read. This is just a subtle example of how much people watch us as Christians, and will put us to test! Always be on guard — and remember — You carry the name of Christ on your forehead and shoulders, once you say you are a Christian. ‘Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny’. I’m glad a friend forwarded this to me as a reminder and I chose to forward it to you. If you don’t pass this on to anybody, nothing bad will happen to you; but, if you do, you would have ministered to someone today and God will bless

Praying for this poor baby!!

I don’t know where his posts keep going, so I am posting another to update on Thor.

11/4 at 9:20am: Just received a call from the vet. She said he is about the same. He continues to have a lot of saliva and mouth erosion. He is also jaundice due to liver failure (most likely, as she put it). She explained that force feeding him is uncomfortable for both him and the staff and wants to put in a feeding tube. She explained that he is high risk to go under the anesthesia due to his low WBC count and poor liver function, but if they don’t do this, he is even a higher risk of fatality.

So they will be putting him under tonight and inserting the feeding tube. She believes this will allow his mouth to heal and bring his levels back up since he will be getting more adequate nutrition. They are discounting this for us, but we still need any assistance financially for this. Please keep sharing Thor’s story and his youcaring page. Or contact Dr. Savino’s office directly.

UPDATE 3:40PM on 11/4:
Spoke with the vet. His feeding tube was inserted. She said that his throat is very swollen. She explained that she is very concerned about his mouth. When she touched his gums, even gently, they began bleeding profusely. She said this is not normal or good. She is giving him Vitamin K. She is hoping the feeding tube provides enough nutrition to reverse his liver failure, but with the bleeding- she thinks he might have sepsis. She explained that she will be running more blood work today to see if his levels improved from when I brought him in on Monday. She kept asking me on the phone if I knew what toxic substance he ate. She stated that various poisons can have bleeding effects such as this. She told me there is no guarantee that the feeding tube will work, but will be doing everything they can to save him.

As always, you guys have done so much. And I can’t thank you enough. Thor really is this communities baby! Please continue to share his page. More donations would greatly help this little guy!

UPDATE 11/5 at 9am:

Thor remains about the same. They are still awaiting the results of his blood work. She said that he seems to be doing ok with the tube. She explained that he stresses very easily- possibly due to the trauma his body has been through, and going under the feeding tube procedure was hard on him. She asked me to call around 4 for the results of his blood work. This will provide us with a more comprehensive understanding of what’s next. Keep sharing and donating! Ask your friends to share too! Thank you all

UPDATE 11/6 at 11:20am:

Spoke with the vet just now. She said he seems to be slowly improving. She said he is sitting up and breathing well. They pulled his IV line today because it was tweaked and uncomfortable for him. So they will be hydrating him by hand. She said that his lungs sounded clearer today. She explained that we are not out of the woods, but his blood cell count has been improving, as well. She will be rechecking his CBC tonight.

Good update guys! I’m gonna go visit after work. Keep sharing his page and sending good vibes to Thor!!!

UPDATE 11/6 at 4:45pm:

Just got to visit with Thor. Everyone in the office is saying what a fighter he is. Vet warned me that he is going to look bad because I haven’t seen him since Tuesday, but he looks good to them versus where he was yesterday. She said his jaundice is resolving, the feeding tube is doing its job. His counts are still up. His lungs/esophagus/breathing are still in rough shape, due to the swelling and bleeding of his gums and esophageal tissue. I got to pet him- he tries so hard to purr! He is such a sweet baby. Vet said he’s so used to being handled now, due to being handled by the staff, that he doesn’t mind it anymore. There are updated pictures in the post below.

UPDATE 11/8:

Got a call from the vet. She said Thor is doing great! His mouth is no longer bleeding, although there is still irritation there. She said he has been purring and trying to get pets from all the staff. She is going to do one more CBC, but stated that Thor can go with his foster VERY soon. We have a balance on the vet bill (I will know more tomorrow). So please continue to share and if you can still donate, every little bit helps.

You guys are wonderful. Thank you so much for the support, financially and emotionally by wondering and keeping up with this little mans health.
